Meet the team
Dr Steve Tang
Optometry director
After completing an optometry degree at Glasgow Caledonian University, Steve gained experience and training at the world-famous Moorfields Eye Hospital in London before becoming one of the UK’s leading eye professionals and a director of a number of blue chip optical companies.
A winner of the industry’s top award, Optometrist of the Year, he’s successfully launched multiple optical stores, mentoring and training high-performance teams and advising the boards of some of Europe’s leading optical companies.
In 2014, after completing the prestigious Australian Optometrist Registration, Steve moved to Sydney’s Northern Beaches with his wife, Charlene, a local community doctor, and young son, Max to manage an optometry franchise in Stocklands, Balgowlah, where he was immediately embraced by the local community. He spearheaded the development of premium optometry eye exams, prioritising high-tech examination techniques and enhanced customer care. After selling the rejuvenated business in 2019, he founded Dr Steve Tang Optometrists in Balgowlah and the Get2020.com.au online store.
In June this year, Steve and Charlene welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Lottie, and you’ll often see the family walking their Scottish terriers Pip and Lu Lu at Tania Park. Steve is a keen early morning surfer at Manly and is skilled in the Brazilian martial art, Jiu Jitsu.
Edwina Martin
Optician and co-founder
Edwina was born in the beautiful Irish country town of Kildare, an hour by car south west of Dublin, and has been a dispensing optician for over 15 years, graduating from the same university as Steve! In fact, she also helped him launch one of Glasgow’s leading independent optometrists and is now a co-founder of Dr Steve Tang Optometrists and Get2020.
She has formulated the team’s training and operations processes, utilising the very latest optical technology, devising a premium range of designer frames and partnering with leading contact lens manufacturers to secure customer savings.
Her legendary warm, friendly welcome – and an ability to deal with even the most complex optical prescriptions and styling needs – have meant that she’s already made a huge impact in the community.
Edwina spends her weekends with her two young children, Dara and Caitlin, husband Gary and her energetic retriever, Riley. She’s a keen netballer and is having surfing lessons on Manly Beach.
Lucy Cantrill
Assistant manager
Lucy hails from Bega in the south west of NSW and was our very first employee! She handles all our customer services and operations for both the shop and online business.
You may recognise her from the Balgowlah Social Cafe, where she brewed some of the best coffee on the Northern Beaches. Anyone who’s tried one of her delicious cakes will tell you her baking is pretty awesome too! She also somehow finds time to make clothes.
Lucy and her ironman husband, Beau have just become proud parents of a beautiful daughter, Rue, and you’ll often find them at the beach where Beau trains for his competitions.
Lorena Cerezo
Optical assistant
Lorena was brought up in in the historic Italian coastal city of Genoa in the shadow of the Dolomite Mountains. Her dad, Toninho Cerezo was a Brazilian international footballer who played in Italy for ten years, while her sister, Lea T, is a top catwalk model.
Lorena, who’s fluent in Italian and Portuguese, is mum to two beautiful daughters, Sofia and Maya, and loves spending time at Manly Beach where her husband, former international water polo player Thomas, is a well-known surf coach. He even taught Steve to ride the waves, so he must be good!
Lorena has an Italian’s eye for style and fashion and is also a very talented cook, whipping up gourmet meals for her family from scratch.
When you pop into our shop, she’ll give you the warmest welcome and make sure you’re completely looked after.
Pip
Scottish Cairn Terrier
Pip is our beloved 10-year-old Scottish Cairn Terrier and traveled all the way from Scotland with Steve in 2014. These days, she takes her job of welcoming customers into our store with a wagging tail very seriously – and has acquired quite a fan base!
Cairn terriers are affectionate, loyal and intelligent, and are great with children. Pip gets very excited whenever she sees a youngster come in as she knows they’re going to give her lots of attention! Her favourite thing in the world is having her tummy rubbed.
Her nickname is ‘Piggy’ as she makes funny grunting noises when she’s happy or finds a tennis ball. The only time she gets scared is during very heavy rain or a thunder storm, but she tries to be brave and not get too worried.
